7/10/26: plans for MJ's monthly meetings coinciding with this one; reading

Welcome! We meet from 4:00-4:45 p.m. Central Time on Fridays. Anyone can join. Feel free to attend any or all sessions, or ask to be added to the invite list - or removed as we have no wish to send unneeded emails of which we all certainly get too many.

  • Announcements
    • AI startup cohort monthly meetings hosted by MJ
      • Next one is Friday Aug. 14 (2nd Friday in each month)
      • Here is the Rundown for tomorrow and subsequent virtual meetings:

        1. Team Reps - Quick Update from someone at each company about where you are in formation. What do you need?
        2. free mentors and resources for you and how to access them from ARise (https://arisearkansas.org/)
        3. Class at UALR and other opportunities for you including resources through the Venture Center. This includes legal, business and tech development resources.
        4. Step-by-Step Overview. What to expect and how to view your company journey. Milestones. What the journey and stages look like. (1) TEAM: What to expect. What is each individual's accountability? How is leadership determined? What skills and knowledge are missing? Team members will change. How do you deal with that? Getting an advisory group. (2) When are you ready to set-up your company? Legal, business and IP tips and pitfalls. (3) Clarity and consensus on Problem, Solution, Customer Segment (Beachhead Market). Including customers BEFORE you build. (4) Money - what do you need to do to be worthy of getting funding? Can you show value? [Note, this is not step one!] Pitch competitions before seeking investment. (5) Sales, Messaging and GTM (Go to Market) Strategy. (6) Product design, development, deployment and maintenance - including customer onboarding.

      • at 4 pm Central, we will have a virtual call for all the students who want to move forward to turn their work at the Hackathon into successful startups. We have at least one person on each team who wants to create a company. We have a few other startups from UA Little Rock joining us. We are happy to include mentors and supporters who want to stay involved going forward or who have a business idea of your own.

        This is a monthly call of only one hour from 4 to 5 pm on the 2nd Friday of the month.

    • Read/view items suggested by attendees. Evaluate some of them, then do one which is highest in full.
    • What if we read from papers authored by people in this group? Then an author would be present to help everyone understand it.
    • Invite paper authors at UALR or anywhere to host a reading session on the abstract and various paragraphs of a paper they published or plan to submit.
    • Any projects that MS students can sign up for? If anyone has an idea for an MS project where the student reports to us for a few minutes each week for discussion and feedback - a student might potentially be recruited! Let me know. 
      • Please suggest a project!
